Awkward Moment

Thu Feb 5, 2009, 12:52 AM
So I should pre-face this story with a quick print making lesson. Before running the plate and the paper through the press, you're supposed to sandwich both the paper and plate between two sheets of newsprint paper, then cover those in blankets, and stick it in the press.

Well my first project was due on tuesday. This of course means i was in late monday night cranking the press to the wee hours of the morning; normally not a problem, except that there are 3-4 classes that use the print workshop and all of them had projects around the same time, and the other student, being reasonable and studious being, had all already been working through the weekend. Again, normally not a problem except that they had used all of the a fore mentioned newsprint. So me, being the resourceful person I am went out to my locker and got some of the newsprint I use in my figure drawing class, and since i was just using it to keep the press clean, i didn't see why i couldn't use some that i had already drawn on.
(this story goes somewhere, i promise)
So I grabbed two sheets at random and finished my project, set it on the drying rack, and went to bed. The next morning in class, my professor is going over what we need to write on our prints so we can turn them in, since i was closest, she asked if she could use mine as an example, i agree. She picks up my the last print in my series, flips it over, and holds it up to the class to reveal a naked man ass.
I this point i decide to go die.
Apparently the sheet of newsprint i had grabbed was one from the one day we had had a male model in class and apparently graphite is readily transferable. I awkwardly try and explain that there hadn't been any newsprint left and i was forced improvise and that i wasn't in the habit of drawing naked men on the back of my prints... but i still think the rest of the class didn't believe me until a girl in the back piped up and admitted she had the same problem with her prints except she had used newspaper instead of naked-man-drawings.

Anyway... C'est la vie

Natures first green is gold, Her hardest hue to hold, Her early leaf's a flower, But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf, So eden sank to grief, So dawn goes down to day.

Nothing gold can stay.

Yeah, it is lovely, so emotional. And on his solo-album it is so comforting! His voice, together with the music, is like a warm shoulder to cry on, or someone hugging you and patting you on the back. Really useful.
